Krokodilo Tapes from Nina and Brian Not Brian

The latest two entries in the Krokodilo Tapes series come from two longtime friends of the label. Nina Plazonja, who's responsible for the Nina Trifft nights at Hamburg's Golden Pudel, has put together a gripping, torrid mixtape entitled No Observable Effect Concentration, while Brian Not Brian, of Going Good and Kristina Records, contributes the equally immaculate and brooding Holywell Session. Each tape comes in an edition of 75, available to pre-order now, and due to be dispatched in late July.

Stefan Jaworzyn & Heather Leigh's Annihilating Light at Cafe Oto, June 14th

Stefan Jaworzyn will make a rare live appearance on Saturday 14th June, playing guitar in a new, possibly one-off improv duo with Heather Leigh dubbed Annihilating Light, at London's Cafe Oto.

An unmissable opportunity to catch this perennially displeased underground deity on the instrument that made his name. Annihilating Light, along with Poulomi Desai & Lorah Pierre, perform in support of Zaimph. The gig is co-presented by Oto and Miles Of Smiles; advances tickets are £8 or £10 OTD.

More information and tickets here

Jaworzyn's archival release Drained Of Connotation, a collection of synthesiser and drum machine experiments recorded in 1982, is out now on Blackest Ever Black.

R.I.P. Julia Brightly

Julia Brightly, who mixed Officer's Dead Unique at her home studio in 1995, passed away in the small hours of May 3, 2014, following a recent cancer diagnosis.

Born in London, Julia had returned there in 2013 after a decade-long stint in the States, and we were lucky enough to have her attend the mastering session for Dead Unique at Alchemy back in January, 2014.

A tirelessly active musician, producer, songwriter, painter, photographer and broadcaster, Julia was renowned first and foremost as a technician, with a formidable reputation for live sound mixing that saw her work closely with the likes of Mogwai, Wire, The Knife and Slint.

Our thoughts are naturally with the friends and family she leaves behind. Dead Unique, which finally sees the light of day next week after 18 years in limbo, is dedicated to her memory.
